The Elite Defender is the bottom path 5th tier upgrade for the sniper and there is a better crosspath, making the decision really easy. The top path adds a ton of damage to each shot making it a single target damage machine while the middle path makes it much better at handling grouped bloons (but is outclassed by the 0-5-2 sniper).
