If you’re wanting to learn a new language like Spanish, French, Italian or German, chances are you’ve heard of Duolingo since it is the most popular free language learning app. However, Duolingo can only take you so far. If you truly want to become fluent in another language like Russian, Chinese or Portuguese, you’ll likely have to supplement your studying with another language program or course. In these cases, John recommends Babbel, Rocket Languages, and Memrise, each for different reasons. Babbel is like Duolingo in several ways but it’s also more robust in terms of grammar instruction and verbal practice. Likewise, John thinks Rocket Languages is far superior to Duolingo in terms of developing your conversational skills. Lastly, John thinks Memrise is a good option for visual learners since their lessons contain videos clips of native speakers. Best of luck learning a new language!
