There’s only one crop-sensor camera under $1000 that I would recommend without hesitation – the Canon R10.
If a beginner on a budget walks up to me asking which mirrorless camera to buy, I immediately say: “Get the R10.”
It doesn’t even matter what they want to do with it.
For video, it shoots beautiful 4K with no crop at 30fps, has a microphone port, and can record for over an hour.
For photos, its 24MP sensor delivers great image quality, and it’s a beast in burst mode – 15fps with the mechanical shutter, which is insane.
But the two best things about the R10 are its incredibly reliable autofocus system – with features like animal eye tracking – and its ergonomics. It feels great in the hand and is very easy to control.
For under $1000, this camera is an absolute beast.
