Scuderia Ferrari F1 team conducted a shakedown of the new SF-26 single-seater at its Fiorano circuit today, Friday, January 23, 2026. The car was driven by official drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, who shared the driving duties, completing the 15-kilometre shakedown run required by the regulations, equivalent to five laps on the approximately 3-kilometre track. From this year, the car are powered by a new power unit that takes into account significant new technical regulations, including revised hybrid engine rules and new aerodynamic regulations. The new F1 rules mandate a nearly equal split (approximately 50:50) between internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric power, compared to the previous 80:20 ratio. The Energy Recovery System (ERS) has almost tripled its energy recovery, from 120 kW to approximately 350 kW, aiming to recover up to 8.5 MJ per lap. The complex and expensive Motor Generator Unit – Heat (MGU-H), which recovered energy from exhaust gases, has been removed to simplify the power units, and all cars will use an advanced, fully sustainable fuel. The cars are more compact, with a wheelbase reduced by 200 mm (to 3,400 mm), a width reduced by 100 mm (to 1,900 mm), and a minimum weight reduced by 30 kg (to 768 kg). An active aerodynamic system on both the front and rear wings has replaced the DRS. A new function, activated manually by the driver when he is within a second of the car ahead, provides a temporary boost of electric power to facilitate overtaking, replacing the current DRS system. The floor design has been simplified, with the ground-effect tunnels removed to reduce dependence on ground aerodynamics and minimise porpoising. The 18-inch Pirelli tyres remain, but their width has been reduced (25 mm at the front, 30 mm at the rear) to reduce drag further.
